K9 & Specialized Units

Patrol, tracking, detection — purpose-trained dogs and handlers deployed where they matter.

20 YRS ANTI-POACHING · SASSETA-ACCREDITED TRAINING

A trained dog changes what a security team can do. Our K9 units add detection, tracking and deterrence that personnel alone can't provide — and because we train our own dogs and handlers, every team deploys to a consistent, accredited standard.

A trained K9 isn't a substitute for security personnel — it's a force multiplier. Three things a dog does that people on their own can't:

Deterrence

A visible working dog changes behaviour before any incident begins. Intruders, opportunists and trespassers think twice the moment a K9 unit is on site.

Capability

Scent work no human can replicate — detecting target substances, locating hidden persons, and screening areas faster and more reliably than any electronic alternative.

Reach

Tracking across distance and terrain that personnel and vehicles can't cover — extending what a single handler-and-dog team can hold or pursue.

Our dogs

Four working capabilities, each trained to operate as one unit with a qualified handler.

Patrol dogs

Visible deterrence and active patrol alongside handlers, with the capability to support searching and apprehension when an incident escalates.

  • Visible site deterrence
  • Handler-led patrol routes
  • Search & apprehension support

Tracking / trailing dogs

Following a human scent trail across distance and terrain — extending reach into bush, farmland and rural environments where conventional patrols can't follow.

  • Human-scent trailing
  • Cross-terrain capability
  • Post-incident pursuit

Detection dogs

Substance and target detection for searches and screening — including narcotics and explosives — supporting site sweeps, access screening and high-risk operations.

  • Narcotics detection
  • Explosives detection
  • Site & access screening

Personal protection dogs

Close protection trained to defend handler and principal — a discreet additional layer for VIP, executive and private-residence security.

  • Handler & principal defence
  • Controlled, command-driven
  • Suited to private & executive use

Specialized units

Recon Tracker Team

Recon Tracker Team is our specialised tracking unit — handlers and tracking dogs selected for endurance, scent discipline, and operating in the bush. The team anchors our anti-poaching work, tracking poachers, stock thieves and missing persons across rural and conservation terrain. Every dog is paired with a single handler and field-tested before deployment. Recon Tracker supports both Anti-Poaching & Stock Theft operations and high-risk tracking taskings. When a callout demands a long pursuit or terrain conventional teams can't follow, this is the unit that gets sent in.

Our specialized K9 units

K9 Unit

General K9 deployment across sites and operations — patrol, search and handler-led K9 support wherever a dog adds capability.

Anti-Poaching & Stock Theft Unit

Protecting wildlife, livestock and land — field tracking and apprehension, backed by two decades of anti-poaching experience.

Detection & high-risk operations

K9 support for high-risk situations and detection tasks — sweeps, screening and operational support where the stakes are highest.

Specialized Farm Protection

K9 applied to farm and rural environments — see Rural / Farm Security for the full farm-context solution.

Our dogs and handlers come through our own SASSETA-accredited training. That means consistency, accountability, and a standard we control end to end.
From the kennel to the field.

The handler partnership

A K9 team is a partnership. Dog and handler are trained together, deployed together, and assessed together — so the two operate as one unit in the field, not as a person with a tool.

Every handler is trained to recognised SAQA unit standards through our SASSETA-accredited Dog Handler Courses (DH1–DH5), covering care, deployment, patrol, detection and tracking.
